UKESM supporting European Climate Education Projects

The European Union Horizon 2020 research project CRESCENDO refers to Coordinated Research in Earth Systems and Climate: Experiments, kNowledge, Dissemination and Outreach. As part of the project, CRESCENDOschools is the European network of Schools for Earth System Modelling and Climate Change. Click here to find out more about the CRESCENDOschools network.
During Spring 2018, the CRESCENDOschools network launched a contest on climate communication for high-school students. The contest winners from Albania created the video If Earth was human. They were invited to represent the network at the Climateurope Festival in Belgrade in October 2018. Feel free to watch!
At the annual meeting of CRESCENDO in September 2017, a musical on climate change called 2100 was performed. It was created by ten students from Paris in collaboration with scientists from Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (CNRS-IPSL). The story is about a girl who accidentally travels in the future (2100) to discover a world facing the effects of climate change. She falls in love with a boy there and takes a vow to go back in time and find solutions to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Will she succeed? Watch it online!
More recently, the UKESM project has worked with UNESCO’s Office for Climate Education (OCE) to provide resources for teachers and students. These resources have been showcased at an exhibition and through summer schools. Feel free to explore them on the OCE website.
